Moving To San Ramon

San Ramon is in Contra Costa County, in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. Specifically, San Ramon is in the Central County area, a suburban region known for its great schools. Housing prices are very competitive. Almost 75 percent sold for above-asking price in 2019.

Although its name means “Saint Raymond,” the city is not named after a saint. “Ramon” was the name of a Native American livestock herder who worked on the land. The city’s founder added “San” because it was the custom.

San Ramon is home to Chevron Corporation and 24 Hour Fitness and is a major hub for AT&T and General Electric. About 76,000 residents live within San Ramon’s 18.72 square miles. Recent U.S. Census data shows that the median income for a family was $132,339.

If you’re moving to San Ramon, here are some places to visit:

  • Memorial Park: This 16-acre park includes a dog park, play area, a BMX course, a bocce ball court, horseshoe courts and water fountains. It pays tribute to a local resident who was killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
  • For shopping, visit the city center, which opened in 2018 with 350,000 square feet of shops, restaurants and a movie theater.
  • Forest Home Farms Historic Park contains structures used by Ruth and Travis Boone, descendants of frontiersman Daniel Boone. The farm contains two houses (one a 22-room Dutch colonial), 14 outbuildings and two pergolas. From the 1930s through the 1960s, the farm operated as a walnut processing plant. Travis Boone invented a walnut dehydration system, when he found that the Bay Area fog made drying walnuts difficult.
  • Near the Boones’s home, is the Glass House, named for David Glass, who moved to the area with his wife, raised a family there and ran a ranch and general store. He planted the area’s first apple orchard.

The Glass house is not made of glass, but it did stand in sharp contrast to the surrounding homes when it was built in the 1870s. It is a two-story, nine-room structure built in the Italianate style by architects who migrated to the San Francisco Bay Area from the East Coast in the mid-1860s.

Planning Your Move To San Ramon

When you’re planning a move, it’s important to do research. Not only do you want to investigate the area you’re moving to, but you also want to investigate the company you’re trusting to move your belongings.

All Reasons Moving and Storage is a moving company you can rely on. We have an A+ Rating from the Better Business Bureau, and we are a Certified ProMover in the State of California. That means that you can count on us. We have your best interest at heart as you plan your move to San Ramon.

Here are the top three mistakes to avoid when hiring movers:

  1. Not getting a written estimate. Experts recommend getting three estimates from local moving companies. All Reasons would be happy to provide you with a free quote.
  2. Not providing movers with an inventory of items you will have them move. Always be upfront to avoid any hassles. If the homeowner forgets to tell us about items that need moving, this can result in additional costs on moving day.
  3. Selecting a mover based on price alone. When you’re trusting a company to move your household belongings, hire someone with the skills necessary. This may mean you pay a little more, but the security of your belongings is paramount.
